Meditation Update

I’m on currently on day 9 of guided meditation with the aid of the Headspace App. By the way just to be clear, I’m in no way getting any kind of affiliate commission for recommending the app. It just happened to be an app that Tim Ferriss (entrepreneur and writer) recommended in one of his YouTube videos.

So big deal…is there any difference? By and large…kind of. I wasn’t quite as bad as Frank Costanza up there, but I am starting to feel a little of that serenity he screams about. I’ve always been skeptical of things I don’t really understand, and I think most of humanity shares my affliction in that regard. I’m slowly learning to be open to new things and am attempting to understand experiences with which I am unfamiliar. It’s amazing to me that the simple act of closing your eyes and focusing on your breath is so incredibly difficult. After 9 days, you would think it would start to sink in. I feel like it has been a baby step pursuit…tiny steps of progress forward.

The measurable difference, as I had referenced before, is the ability to concentrate firmly on one thing at a time. I have by no means mastered it at all but I feel an improvement. I don’t know about you, but at one time in my life, I could focus like a laser on whatever was in front of me for hours. That skill seemed to go away with the introduction of the smart phone to my life. Most of the day, I feel bombarded instead of in control. This constant assault on the senses prompted me to seek a solution to combat it.
